       RELIEF & REHABILITATION - TSUNAMI
On December 26th, 2004, a killer wave TSUNAMI swept over the coastal areas of Southern India. The wave swept over 10,000 people, leaving thousands of people orphaned, widowed, and homeless with almost no hope for the future.

FACT responded immediately to provide food materials like Rice, pulses, edible oil, clothing to effected families in Krishna district. Our relief team rushed to the affected areas, assessing the need and providing immediate relief.
  • provided 3,500 families with food, water, blankets, clothes and medicines.
  • helped families by building close to 500 temporary shelters.
  • provided 125 boats and economic assistance to over 125 families.
  • provided houses to 30 families.
  • Provided new Nets for 1500 families.
  • provided drinking community drinking water tanks for 2,900 families.
  • provided irrigation water canal for 500 hectors of land to raise the paddy crop.

Our work continued long after the Tsunami had ceased to be in the news. FACT continued to provide sustainable support as people tried to bring normalcy back to their lives.

After providing immediate relief, we focused on economic recovery. The Tsunami, which affected the coastal areas of India, left a damaging impact on the fishing industry, with many fishermen unable to return to their livelihood for want of proper boats and nets. FACT provided boats and fishing equipment, fishing nets enabling fishermen to return to their livelihood.

Although Tsunami disaster happened about nearly four years ago, still thousands of people are suffering because of its consequences and they are not able to start a new life. FACT has therefore undertaken a number of programmes to help Tsunami affected people and to enable them to restart their life.
